Sidney Ponson

Oye. Is this what it's coming to? Signing this nut job. Keep in mind...the Texas Rangers, sitting at 500 out west, DROPPED this crazy after he went 4-2 and less than a 4 ERA. THAT should tell you something. And remember when Cashman brought him in a couple of years ago, just to release him after getting zero out of him. Is he any better than some of the young guys in the system, like Giese. Let him start a few games and see what he has. I hate to say this, but the OLD yankees wouldn't have signed an a-hole like Ponson, judge punching drunk.

On the bright side, the Yanks played a GREAT game today. The team that will make the playoffs will win 12-9 and 1-2. They will get good pitching, timely hitting and different people coming through on different days. Last week someone asked me what I thought they needed to do to get back into this, and I said they needed to go on a 9-1 run or 17 out of 15, something like that. But kind if like Colon with the Red Sox (he was great against KC and Seattle, but put him against Philly and he didn't look so good), is that the Yanks, during this 7 game win streak, beat Houston and San Diego, one sitting at 33-39 and the other sitting at 31-43. And with Cinci and Pitt coming up, it could get better before it falls off. Hey, I'm not complaining ,a win is a win and the Red Sox carried their season a couple of years ago by totally dominating the National League and basically going 500 in the AL. And I guess it can start to give them the confidence they need heading back into the tough part of their schedule, it's just that I am cynical by nature and I'm not convinced yet.

As for Loser Nation, WONDERFUL, another title. I'll admit I don't have the visceral hatred of any other team around here that I do for the Red Sox, but it just gives drunk Sox fans another feather in their fat ugly bloated hats. Unshaven ugly a-holes running around wearing KG jerseys with Patriot hats and Red Sox jackets. Losers.

Are you concerned...

At a BBQ this weekend someone asked me if I was concerned yet as a Yankees fan. My reply is "not yet" but its getting close. I have a (not so) quiet confidence in the Yankees but it's starting to get a little late in the season. Although, now that Posada and ARod are back things started to change a little. And if one of the two young stud pitchers comes through, it could be a good year. I know the Red Sox and and LA have records over 600, but if the Yankees go on a run they can bridge that gap real fast.

If they are still at 500 in a month at the all star break, then I'll be concerned. And then my message will change from "they'll get there" to "it's a rebuilding year".

As for this nonsense with Manny and Youkilis in the dugout, they are actually blaming YOUK for Manny taking a swing at him. Are you freakin kidding me. Because Kevin acts like a jerk arguing calls and throwing his helmet, that makes its ok that Manny TOOK A SHOT AT HIM?? I'm sorry baby, I didn't mean to hit, but you made me, it's actually your fault if you think about it baby, I love you baby, but you can't be doing that baby, or you'll get hit baby.

Throwing a backhand a players is just Manny being Manny, that cute loveable guy.

Coco fight, Manny fight, Youk fight

Thank you thank you thank you Mr. red sox. Last night was exacted what I needed. What a goat rodeo, perfect. I was having a really crappy week (flight from Houston to NY through Atlanta was delayed and I got to the hotel at 2am, then the next night I had to wait over 5 hours at LaGuardia before I could fly from NY back to Boston), plus there hasn’t been much to write about lately. The Red Sox have been in fairyland and all was well, while down the pike in NY the Yankees were struggling.

But things changed last night and before I get all excited, I know its one game, but it could be a turning point, especially since the Yanks had a walk off winning home run from a suddenly old looking Giambi with a creepy mustache.

I was in my car last night around 10 driving home from the airport, sitting in dead stop traffic on 93 south because of effing paving they are doing, talking with my friend Tom on the phone when the conversation went like this.

Dave: So I turned to Senator Clinton and said never give up, anything could happen…

Tom: Have you been listening to the Sox game?

Dave: No, been out of touch, but I know they’re winning.

Tom: Coco got kicked out.

Dave: What do you mean?

Tom: He charged the mound after getting hit and ended up getting pummeled on the ground. Ha.

Dave: Nice!! Continuation of the crap from the day before. Ha.

Tom: OUCH!! They just showed a replay of the Elsbury catch. Kind of looked like the Matsui play last year when he broke his wrist.

Dave: What do you mean?

Tom: He made a really nice diving catch but rolled on his write.

Dave: Oof. Another injury?

Tom: Holy Crap, they just showed a fight on the bench between Youkilis and Manny Ramirez. They lead Manny down the tunnel.

Dave: Now you are just making shit up to make me feel better. Stop it.

Tom: No, really, they got into some kind of fight. No idea why.

And that is where it ended. I got home and immediately put on NESN. Later, Coco was on acting like a total a-hole describing the fight with this ass-shitting grin as he talked about it. They punched like girls? It looked like a large man trying to kill you, not a girl, but hey, what do I know. All joking aside, his post game interview was embarrassing. The Red Sox should be talking to him right now about his attitude because charging the mound, starting a bench clearing brawl, and being proud of it is NOT something most baseball fans look up to. But considering the mentality of most Red Sox fans, they probably love it.

So then there is Youkilis Manny thing. Ramirez is a sensitive guy and it was a SHOCK to see him take a swing at Kevin. He is the last person on the Red Sox I would think would get hot under the collar about anything. A theory my friend Tom threw out there is that since Youk has played some outfield and Manny has been DH-ing, one of them made a comment after an opposing player made a nice catch in the outfield. Who knows.

So things just got interesting and I love it. But it doesn’t change the standings so the Yanks still have work to do. But at least it made my life more fun.

Finally, I love Francona. I really do. He made some comment during the post game interview about it being another day at the ballpark. Perfect response to add some levity to the situation.

I am going to watch this situation with Manny and Youk very carefully.
