ethan's hat

Ethan, Emerson and I took a walk along the brook today to get out of the house before nap time. Ethan loves to look for rocks and sticks to throw into the water from the bridge. So there we were standing on the bridge when we saw a family of ducks swimming. Mommy, daddy and about 7 ducklings. It was really cute.

All of a sudden Ethan starts saying "hat, hat, hat" and pointing to the brook. Sure enough there was his little baseball cap (my favorite one I might add) floating downstream. There was no way for me to save the cap, the edges of the brook are pretty dense with foliage, and steep, and I had Emerson in the Bjorn so wading into the creek was out. So we watched the hat float off and eventually sink. I felt weird about just letting it go, but what could I do?

Back in the house I was getting Emerson changed and Ethan comes trotting up chatting away, pointing and gesturing "hat....duckiees...dropped....hat. dropped...hat....duckies ha hat" Yes, I tell him, the duckies have your hat. We can't get it back, it's OK. But he keeps on talking in his adorable little voice and pointing first at his head then toward the brook "hat...hat...dropped...duckieees"

Its the first time he has tried to tell a story and it's so cute. He kept telling it to me, and everyone else all day.

David's birthday

David and Emily have the same birthday (May 2), so for the last 4 years that day has pretty much been about Emily and any party is mostly for her. This year I decided to throw a little party for David, its his 35th birthday this year so its kind of a big one.

Getting anything past David is hard, he keeps a close eye on the expenses so big purchases are never a secret. So I always have to wait to the last second to buy his gift so he doesn't say "what did you spend $xx on?". Don't get me wrong David is no misor, but he likes to know what's being spent. So I went to BJ's to get stuff for the party, I told him I was shopping for Emily's party so he wouldn't be suspicious, then I stashed the stuff at my neighbor's house.

I enlisted that same neighbor (Chuck) to help me get David out of the house so I could get ready for the party. Chuck thought up taking Emily and his daughter, Jackie, to the circus. It was a great idea, Emily and Jackie are also May 2nd birthdays so the ruse was that hte circus would be part of their birthday gift. They all had a great time. It was the first circus for everyone except David and I think they all had fun. They took the train in and got dinner at Fanuiel Hall, a big night for the girls.

When the boys were on their way home Chuck called on the sly to let me know they were coming and asked David if he wanted to go out for a drink after, so David called me and said they might go out and I played like that would be fine. When David came home a few of our friends were here and he definately was surprised. It was nice to have a party for him. Also to have a party with no kids so the grown ups could talk.

Its been a busy month, Emerson's christening, David's party now Emily's party on Sunday. I hope it doesn't rain, the current kid count is 22 and not everyone has responded yet!! That would be crazy inside.
