Hurricane Victim? Try the Casino
I’m sorry but I had to comment on this story. I first decided not to say anything, at least to anyone other than Patti, because of how bad hurricane Katrina was, but it kept bugging me.
Here is a short version of the story.
A 57 year old woman who lost her home in Katrina won 1.6 million dollars after playing the slots at a local casino. She was on her way to a Walmart when “on a whim” she decided to stop and play and she won.
Ok, first thing, good for her. I am sure this was the very first time she stepped into a casino since she lost all of her stuff in the hurricane. I am sure she has also not accepted any donations or gifts from millions of people who have donated to those in need. I am also sure she only spent $4.25 before she won and that she would have stopped at, let’s say 10 dollars, so she could use her money to buy toiletries and other essentials. And I am also sure she was actually going to the Walmart and the casino was not her final destination. All of those things I am sure of for Ms. Jacquelyn Sherman.
But for all of the other degenerate gamblers who are going to take the 2 thousand dollars the government gave them and find a way to turn it into booze, cigarettes and cash to gamble, think twice about it. What you went through with the hurricane is something that no one should go through. The pain and hassle of putting your lives back together is something I cannot image. So don’t stop at a casino “on a whim” to play the slots. Gambling is bad if you don’t have the money. If you do have the money, then let it ride. But something tells me that a large percentage of those in the casino should be using their money elsewhere. This is not a Stephan King short story where you will take 5 bucks and turn it into 2 mil in 20 minutes. Chance are you will walk out a couple of hundred short of when you walked in.
But that's just me. What do I know?
