Reality TV Game Show Reward
You want to know what bugs me. The reward on reality TV game shows, like the Apprentice, where the prize for winning is time with a guru or celebrity. For example, if one team can sell useless Proctor and Gamble crap in Manhattan better than another group, they get to spend time with the CEO of South West. What really bugs me is when the reward is time with the actual person the show is based around. Like last night when I watched the Apprentice with Martha Stewart because I was on a flight with TVs and nothing better was on. The prize for winning some stupid contest was breakfast with Martha, the convict. And I know Donald has done this too. At least with Trump he included his hot wife. Martha brought along some strange guy that I guess works for her. It would be like me winning some sales contest at work and the prize being three days at the office, all expenses paid. Bunch of creepy narcissists.
The other thing that bugs me is when they actually do get to spend time with someone else who is well known, like Steve Forbes or Michael Bloomberg. The idea is that these smart and successful men and women will give the contestants great advice and insightful thoughts. But it’s never anything good. It’s usually some greeting card crap like “Follow your dreams” or “You have to have passion in what you do” or “Work hard”. Big deal. I could have told them that. I was hoping for something more like “read the back page of Barrons every Tuesday, near the bottom, and follow their advice” or “Call this number and tell them I sent you, the person on the phone will give you further instructions” instead of “surround yourself with people you trust”.
Just thought I’d share.
