My Radio Debut

I was on an AM sporting news radio show this morning, as a guest. Can you believe that? Yeah, me either. Here’s the story.

On Tuesday I got an email from a guy who said he wanted me to be on his radio show, Providence, RI sporting news radio 1320, on Wednesday morning. He didn’t say much in the email so I thought it was a scam. I replied and through a couple of email exchanges, I found out he does a morning radio show and that he was a Red Sox fan, and his co-host was a Yankee fan, and he found my anti Red Sox site, www.redsoxstink.com, and thought it would be fun to have me on.

So the next morning at 8:30 I called an 800 number he gave me. I went immediately into the show and they told me to hold on while they finished up a segment on Nomar or something. I listened for a couple of minutes and they went to me. Little ol’ me.

It was a blast. I am not joking. For about half an hour we talked about the Yankees and the Red Sox and the rivalry, specific players, and why how I got to the point of having a website dedicated to it. They were really good guys and both had an objective point of view on their respective teams. And they listened to me, cared about my opinion, and weren’t rude or mean to me, something which happens often when I talk about the Red Sox.

They started off by asking me how I got to this point. Then during the conversation they asked me all type of questions like who I hate and liked the most, what I thought about individual players on both teams, what I thought about Cashman, Theo, etc.

I am not joking when I say it was like me sitting in a local Boston bar, like Virgies in Somerville, and shooting the breeze with two local sports fans. The big difference is that these two guys were very well educated and objective about the Sox, something not found in Boston. Plus it didn’t end in a fight like most of my Red Sox discussions with local drunks.

I had a blast. I am very passionate about the Yankees and Sox and have an opinion, a strong opinion, about almost everything. I told them how I felt about David Wells, Arod, Ortiz and Manny, Millar and Nixon, Theo and the owners, George S, Cashman, Giambi, Nick Johnson, Randy Johnson, Matsui and Damon. I love, LOVE talking about sports and nothing could have been better about the conversation.

When we said our goodbyes I stayed on a for a minute and heard them say, when I was off the air, that I was a class act and well educated about the topic and they wanted to have me back on when the season starts.

So, there you have it. My first jump into local talk sports radio. This just means that I need to update my Sox site more often, and make it easier for others to post messages. Maybe I’ll add some Flash to it, or send out a newsletter.

Good stuff. The call totally made my morning. Thanks to Bill and Andy of 1320 AM Providence, Rhode Island, for giving me a forum to talk about how bad the Red Sox are.
