Name of baby number three

Thanks to all who called or said a prayer for the new baby. Dawn and Nichole, I was suppose to get your number this morning before I left to go back to the hospital and forgot. Patti wanted to call during the day.

Last night a friend came over to stay at the house after Ethan went to sleep and Patti's mom and I went back with Emily. We thought about brining Ethan earlier in the day but he is kind of young. Emily was great. She kept saying how cute he was (which he isn't. If you have ever seen a baby after going through the birth canal, 'cute' is not the way to describe him. Swollen, misshaped, puffy, blotchy, beat-up, alien, gross, bruised, all good ways to describe him, but not cute). Anyway, she was really great. I think she is going to try to be a little helper where Ethan is going to be jealous as hell and a huge crank.

So we had a hard time with names. During the pregnancy we had a few names narrowed down. There were of course ones that I liked and she didn't and vice versa, so we threw them away immediately. Then we had about 6 or 8 we both liked. Then we had one that we sort of agreed to. We ended up loving it. Then a day or two before the actual birth Patti fell in love with another name that I didn't really like. But she loved it. So we talk and talk and sought counsel from friends and family and decided.

The name is Emerson James Dobrindt.

Emerson (German name) is actually based on Keith Emerson from one of the greatest rock groups of all time - Emerson Lake and Palmer. Patti and I love that group more than life itself and had a hard time deciding on either Emerson, Lake or Palmer. All sound perfect. So we went with the E to keep with tradition (Emily, Ethan). Nothing makes me happier than having my favorite group included in my heritage.

Ok, that's not true. But I sound convincing, don't I? Be honest. I was pretty compassionate while giving that line. And it's not from Ralph Waldo Emerson, the famed philosopher and writer. Or Emerson college. Although Ralph and the college both have ties to Boston, where we live. We just like the name. According to my favorite baby name site, www.babynamewizard.com (click on the NameVoyager from the home page and have fun), Emerson was fairly popular around the turn of the century (1890-1920). Since the 90s it has made a resurgence and unfortunately is also a girl's name, although nowhere near as popular as the boys name.

So that is his name. My first choice, Jesus Ignatius, or my second choice, Joseph Emil, or my third, Broken Arrow, or Dungeon Master or Krazy Kid Dobrindt didn't make it past the first round with the wife. So that's that. Emerson it is.

The middle name James is after Patti’s father. Obviously his name is James. Just wanted to be crystal clear for the Red Sox fans who might read this, sometimes you need it spelled out.
