Katie Couric - I'll miss you
The other morning I found myself in a nightmare, one where I was watching some sick, twisted narcissistic self-absorbed display of unwarranted flattery being given to a mean witch about to fly away on her broomstick. Then I realized that I was lying in bed in a hotel in Chicago watching the Today Show. As it turns out, maybe you saw something on the news about it, Wednesday was Katie Couric's last day as co-idiot of the Today Show after 15 years. Not sure if it made the press where you are. Kind of small story. Not much about it on the news. Quiet. They downplayed it.
She is leaving to anchor the CBS nightly news program, something that I actually enjoy watching Bob Scheiffer do on the rare occasion I watch it.
So I found myself watching Microsoft Movie Maker film clips of Katie through the years, then one moron after another would tell this midget how great she is. I think I heard terms like "you made me love you" and "you held America's hand" when talking about 9/11. Hmm, to me she was a morning show co-host, something that SNL makes fun of pretty well.
So anyway, Matt Lauer, the weatherman Al Roker and Ann Curry, who I actually like, no, who I actually love, took terms as sycophants, each awkwardly reading off the teleprompter some drivel that I hope a first year intern wrote. And Katie sat there with this dumb look on her face while pretending to take this crap to heart.
It was all freakin nonsense. Matt hates Katie and can't be happier that she is going. Ann is bitter that Campbell Brown gets the weekend mop-up duty and both were passed over for the spot next to pretty boy. I'll admit I don't like Katie. It's not that I have anything against her, but I don't think she is anything special. I don't find her witty, charming, that pretty or really that smooth when the cue cards fall to the side. But she has been doing it for a long time and gets paid a HUGE amount of money to do it. So good for her. But the thing on Wednesday morning was way too much. I could only watch a few minutes before I had to throw up. Which I did. And then turned the channel before my ears started to bleed.
Good luck on the news show Katie. I'll miss your warm smile and friendly greeting, warming my day like a hot cup of coffee each and every morning when I crawl out of bed during the week. My only regret is that my weekends were empty without you. Farewell.

Co-idiot was new and funny. Everything else was not. How about a story about Ken L. and Jeffrey S.?

At least I had one funny thing. That's one more than usual. What am I going to say about Ken and Jef. They made gazillions while the working man lost his retirement, which was small to start with. Some things are not funny.
