Every now and then I get an email from Loser Nation, something that tells me how stupid I am and how much the Yankees suck. For the most part the note is pretty good. It hits on specific points, brings up facts, some analysis and then closers with “Yankees Suck!!” But I got one yesterday that was so basic, so primal, that I could not stop thinking about it. When an 18 month old waddles up to another 18 month old and pushes them down, the reason is simple. It’s because that’s what they do. It’s like the story of the scorpion and the frog swimming across a river. So when I get something from a Red Sox fan that feels like it’s written by a 3rd grader or someone who has spent a lot of time in jail, I can’t blame them. It’s what a Red Sox fan is, deep down inside. Here is the note
“Yankees Suck
give it up buddy your web site sucks as bad as the yankees.the days of the
yankees buying championships are over.the greatest rivalry in sports is
going to suck if the yanks keep playing like this.iknow they made a little
run to only be 1 game behind.but they look pathetic.your new centerfielder
throws like a bitch.when is the last time they even won the world series.the
past is over its are time.”
Let’s forget the grammar and spelling mistakes, I do that all the time. Sometimes it’s a badge of honor. A way of life for most Sox fans. Couple of points.
- Despite what the Globe and Herald post, having a .606 percentage winning record (Yankees) versus a .600 winning record (Red Sox) means you are in front. I know the local papers think they can fool every uneducated Sox fan, but the way baseball works, professional baseball, is to look at the wins versus losses, and calculate a percentage, and that is what counts. You should know this by now, it’s been a long time since the Sox won the division. The Yanks have actually been in first a day or two. Shame on you.
- I thought the days of saying “Yankees Suck” were over, like the Nomar-Jeter-ARod shortstop comparison. The Yankees/Sox rivalry is not what it used to be, unfortunately for the Yankees. So when I see “Yankees Suck” I get nostalgic to the days when Sox fans would chant that at Sox/Royals games in KC.
- I know my site sucks. You are going to have to do better than that to insult me. I am insultable. My site goes against every web development and navigation principle, but who cares?
- Our Centerfielder throws like a bitch? Did you say that when he was playing here? Did you? That he was a bitch? No. You worshiped him like he was the pied piper of your pathetic life. You treated him and his stupid long hair and beard and self proclaimed nickname nonsense like he could do no wrong. And now that he is gone you turn your back on him and start calling him names and questioning his ability. To me, that is more sad and weak than anything else you can do. Shame on you some more.
- When is the last time we won a world series? Good one. Haven’t heard that before. I think it was 2000. I know, there are 6 year olds walking around who have never known the thrill of a Yankees World Series. It’s been FOREVER. It’s hard to go through every losing season short of our goal. It’s hard. I don’t know how I can do it. Give me 80 more years and maybe you can explain it to me. Since you probably have the memory of my cat, we also won in 1999, 1998, 1996 and a few times through the years. Relax on the winning crap, you don’t have enough metals on your wall to start with that argument.
- The greatest rivalry in sports is going to suck? IT DID SUCK. When the Sox couldn’t win their way into a nursing home. I hate to admit this because I am on the losing end, but there finally IS a rivalry.
- Ah, the cliché if clichés. The Yanks buying the championship. Please, please for my sanity, get a new one. Who has the second highest payroll in baseball? The Yanks pay AROD 14 mill a year, not 25, Hicks picks up the rest. The Sox pay Manny 20 mil a year. The payroll is high for both teams and it hurts baseball overall. But don’t throw stones, you are one of the “haves”, not the “have nots”. Get a new argument.
I love notes like this. It makes me feel better about being a Yankee fan. It hasn’t been fun the past 18 months, but it hasn’t been terrible either. The current situation is not as dire as you might think. ARod, Jeter, Giambi, Johnson, The Moose, these guys are used to being the center of attention and the savior. For the past 2 years they have only been a piece of the overall solution. A cog in the wheel. But now they have to step up and be the BMOC, and that is something they are used to doing. I might be wrong, but I have a feeling that the Yanks will be fine without our corner outfielders. Patience, this is a long season.
