Red Sox Stink 2007

Sept 10 2007. Both the Yankees and the Red Sox have 18 games left. Quick breakdown.

Yanks – 6 against Toronto, 3 Boston, 6 Baltimore, 3 Tampa Bay. 12 away, 6 home.

Red Sox – 6 Tampa, 3 Yanks, 3 Toronto, 2 Oakland, 4 Minnesota. 12 home, 6 away.

The Sox magic number is something like 14. Good for them. Bunch of loser misfits. You are not sure if I meant the fans or the players. Admit it.

I’ve been away for 2 weeks and woke up this morning to hear Dennis and Callahan. When did they come back?

So the good ship lollipop continues in Loser Nation. The Sox are winning and they have an easy path until October. If the Yanks didn’t have such a bad April and first week of May, things would be totally different but it’s not fair to look at it that way. The Sox do have good starting pitching, their middle relief used to be lights out, and they have the biggest money closer in the game. But Manny is not well, JD Drew keeps up his poor performance, and who knows what they will get out of Lugo. Ortiz is not as dramatic with his walk off home runs, but his numbers are still up there.

The Yankees might be on the upswing at the right time. If they can continue to put distance on the wild card, they will enter the post season playing very good ball. The biggest concern is who will pitch after Wang and Pettitte. But on the same note, who is lights out right now for the Red Sox. This time of year, pitchers are tired, hitters are hurt, and rookies are unproven.

So, my prediction. Despite what I said before, the Sox take the division (I just threw up in my mouth), Yanks win the wild card.
