George Mitchell report release later today

I feel like I did when I was waiting for the Jets to make a draft choice after the disastrous Rich Kotite 1-15 season. Bill Parcells was there, good college class, things were turning up. It was like waiting for Christmas morning. The steroid report comes out today, conducted by Red Sox partial owner George Mitchell, what a joke. Some reports have this thing costing 60 mil, but MLB says 20 mil. So George Mitchell's law firm got a huge paycheck and he investigated potential players that are on a team he partially owns. WHAT A FREAKIN JOKE. Hmm, I wonder what I would do with my taxes if I knew that I would audit them myself? Beer, business expense. Granite counter tops, needed those for work. 2 grand on a flat panel TV, that was charity.

But I digress. So ESPN has it splashed all over its landing page. Same with CNNSI. Same with Yahoo Sports, Fox Sports and NBC Sports. Guess what MLB.com has on its home page? DAMN IT!! I was getting all set to go off about major league baseball not covering it but they have it as a headline story too. Damn Selig, he took my thunder.

So as we all know, Roger Clemens is being named. I wonder if Red Sox fans will call him a Yankee and forget his time with the Red Sox? Of course they will. Since he is being fingered for steroid use, he is a Yankee, and any history of him playing for the Red Sox will be conveniently forgotten.

I also wonder if any Red Sox players will be on it. If so, Loser Nation will defend them to the death. Just like they did with Rodney Harrison. But if any other Yankee players, like Andy Pettitte I just heard about, are listed, then they are cheating losers who should be banned from baseball. And if they were Red Sox players that are not longer on the team, then the Red Sox got rid of them because such a wonderful organization would not allow anything like that to exists in the clubhouse.

Getting back to Andy Pettitte. I just read on Daily News dot com that he will be fingered for using human growth hormone. It's not as bad as steroids, but it taints a player that most people like. I guess it’s a little like the difference between a crack head and a pot smoker. Both are illegal, and could harm you, but one is much worse in the eyes of most people. Except maybe Red Sox fans, who use pot to calm down after tearing apart a Holiday Inn Express room after doing crack and drinking peach schnapps for three days.

But I digress again.

So I am eagerly awaiting this report to find out who did what, and watch the PR community make a ton of money putting spin plans into place for active athletes. And what is Selig going to do? I'll tell you what he should do. Apologize to the public for letting this happen without stricter oversight, condemn fans for being hypocrites (people want monster home runs, faster pitches, bigger players but condemn the way athletes get to monster home runs, faster pitches and bigger players) and tell fans who love baseball, like me, that things will change and move on. I don't like steroid use, because it’s cheating. NASCAR, for all its redneck faults, makes everyone compete with the same specs. Golf has rules on type of clubs and balls so a billionaire like Tiger Woods can't hire a team of nerds to invent a kick ass driver or a ball that is more forgiving. So why should baseball, one of the purest and historical games (how different is the game that is played today from the game that was played 100 years ago?) sit by and let athletes use chemicals that were not really around 50 years ago.

So I'll sit by tonight while the snow builds up on my roof and read the report.
