Alex Rodriguez wins 2007 AL MVP

ARod won the 2007 AL MVP today. Ok Loser Nation, let's hear why it should have been David Ortiz or Mike Lowell or Dustin Pedroia or Jason Varitek or Manny Ramirez or Kevin Youkilis or anyone of the other active roster Red Sox since everyone in this myopic town thinks their own athletes regardless (or in true boston fashion I should say irregardless) of how well they really did are far superior than anything else a league has to offer. Oh, I know, the arguement against ARod will go something like this...

"ARod wuhn tha EM-VEE-P...na tha's jus na right...we all know David Ortiz is a bettuh playuh even though his numbas weren't as goo...".

I can't wait to listen to super homer Mike Adams and his nonsense about how any Red Sox player is better than all yankee players. Ugh.

I don't like ARod, but he is the best player in the game and had a monster season.

Mariano Rivera holding out for fourth year

From today's Daily News...

Having seen the Yankees hand out a four-year contract to Jorge Posada and a 10-year deal to Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera has apparently decided that three years are not enough for him.

According to sources, the All-Star closer is now demanding a fourth year from the Yankees, who have already extended a three-year, $45 million offer to Rivera that would make him by far the highest-paid closer in baseball.

(April 2008) Bob Sheppard: And now, closing for the New York Yankees...Joba Chamberlain.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Alex Rodriquez and the Yankees are apparently close to reaching a deal, 270M over 10 years. Please wake up, this is not happening this is not happening. I was all set for a new beginning without ARod, He is too much work. He's like dating a girl that is high maintenance with all of the crap with yelling I GOT IT while running to third and slapping the glove of pitchers and all that crap. And for all those who said that the Yankees can never replace his numbers...well, do you know what the Yankees did before they got ARod?? THAT'S RIGHT...they won championships. If he is so effing good then how did they win 6 pennants and 4 World Series between 1996 and 2003?

10 years I gotta have this guy on my beloved Yankees. Please hit me in the head with a brick.

ARod back to the Yanks - update

From today's NY Daily News...

"We will not negotiate with Scott Boras," a Yankees source said. "He cannot be in the room."

Damn RIGHT they won't deal with Boras. And to make me happy, they should not deal with AROD EITHER!! 350 mil. What the (expletive deleted) is he smoking? What will Boras and ARod do if and when no one can afford 12 years and 350 mil? Seriously? What will they do? You know what they will do? They come back to moneybags and hope they don't hear Steinbrenner tell him to go (expletive deleted) himself and offer ARod much less than he wants.

Look, I wouldn't mind seeing ARod go to another team, what have they done since 2004 when they got him. But if he comes back on the Yanks terms, then fine, we'll see how it goes in the 2008 post season.

More on Mo and Posada later, I need to get back to work.

ARod continued

I'm starting to like where this thing is going. Read this article, great stat on his post season success.

Is ARod worth 350 mil??

I swear if the Yankees work out a deal with that a-hole Boras and his flake star player ARod than I am going to be become a free agent fan and pimp myself out to another baseball team (but not the Red Sox). Alex Rodriguez is the best player in baseball, probably top 3 or 4 all time, but I think 350 mil can be better spent elsewhere, but more importantly, out of principle I think the Yanks should tell him to go (expletive) himself.

First, Boras announced that ARod was opting out during the World Series. A-hole move.

Second, Boras and ARod made Cashman and the Yankees look like fools by not talking to them, and then after opting out telling the Yankees they can have the pleasure of negotiating with ARod if they bring 350 million dollars to the table. F**k that, freakin jerk.

Third, ARod didn't even have the common courtesy and respect for the game to accept his Hank Aaron award before game 4 of the World Series. What was it ARod? To busy burning stacks of 100 dollar bills in your fireplace to warm your guest house living room.

Considering what ARod adds to any team, except in the playoffs, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees at least discuss it. But does anyone really think Hank Steinbrenner’s first move running the team will be to commit that crazy amount of money to ARod. And again, out of pride and trying to save face, would Cashman really offer something up to him.

I am really watching this thing closely because I have no idea who will be willing to give him a 12 year, TWELVE YEAR, contract worth that much money. But what do I know. When Manny signed with the Red Sox, 20 mil a year seemed crazy. Not so crazy now though, is it.

Abreu is coming back, some Red Sox moves

Yanks picked up Abreu's option for 2008, paying him 16 mil for right field next year.

Read about it here.

Not a bad move, I like Abreau and while 16 mil is a lot, he is definitely not worth that much, he is not far off. If he didn't get off to a slow start this past year, he would have had great numbers.

With the Sox, they exercised their option on Wakefield (4 mil) and Tavarez (3.85 mil). It's kind of weird, that Wakefield who won 17 games is getting paid just a little more than Tavarez who is one step up from useless.

Even most odd is not picking up Kevin Cash and going with no one (at least for now) who can catch the knuckleball pitcher they just signed.

Is Torre the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer

Someone, unfortunately not me, compared Joe Torre to the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer. I can't say I disagree.

Joe Torre signs with the LA Dodgers

I thought that when Torre turned down the Yankee's offer, something that everyone understood and knew he would, that he ended his managing career and would go into the broadcast booth. I was wrong. The Dodgers signed Torre to a three year deal yesterday. Click here for a perspective on it from the West Coast side.

Couple of things.

- In hindsight, the Yankee offer was more of a "you have to prove you can win" and not "we are in this together". A one year deal with incentives is something you give to a first year manager out of the minors, not someone who was a great player and hall of fame manager.

- I didn't think the west coast would be good for Joe, a guy born in Brooklyn, but it makes sense. The Dodgers need to win back southern California. USC is out, the Lakers are no longer the bell of the ball, and the Angels have been taking the spotlight. Joe adds a credibility level to the team that they could not have got from anyone else, except for maybe LaRussa.

- For the first time in my life, I am going to follow a west coast team AND a National League team. I could care less about the players, but want to see how Torre does.

Good luck to Joe Torre. It could not be a better place for Joe to keep his sainthood in NY. West Coast, National League Team, no conflict of interest. I keep thinking of the Godfather scene where Vito Corleone says to Sollozo..

“I wish to congratulate you on your new business, and I know you'll do very well; and good luck to you -- as best as your interests don't conflict with my interests. Thank you”.
