Schilling Painted Sock - Part Two

What a dumb story. Seriously. EEI and ESPN talked about it a lot the following day but it really turned in to a stuffed bra - full of promise but nothing there. As much as I might not like Curt Schilling, what he did in 2004 was pretty amazing. Sucked the Yankees lost in game 6 to him though. It was a pretty close game if I remember, but he still went out there with that injury. And as much as I would like to make fun of him, I never really thought the sock had anything but blood. Mirabelli kind of looks like a jerk, as does Gary Thorne. The thing that made people pause so much, I think, was that Gary Thorne said it so matter of factly, that he actually does have some credibility in the sports world, and that Mirabelli didn't say it was a joke right away. With Doug denying it, he basically said that one is lying and one is telling the truth. It was black and white, then both guys back tracked later in the day.

Too bad it didn't have more teeth. 38pitches.com aside, Schilling would be fun to poke at.

Now on to game 4 of Yankees Red Sox. Yanks on a horrible slide, pitching issues from start to close, and not much relief in sight.

And my plan is taking shape.

Schill's sock

First of all, I hate those cut nicknames they have in baseball. Everything either ends is a 'Y' or cuts the actual name in half. Wakey pitched on Monday and Schill pitched last night. It bugs me.

Mother-of-all-things-holy how did I not latch on to this earlier. Schilling painted his sock in the classic 2004 post season game and IT WAS NOT BLOOD.

La madre de Dios how did I miss THIS!! DAMN IT!! Apparently, according to the Globe, this rumor has surfaced before. I need to let this sit for a while but think I am going to run with it. Just wish I said something two a half years ago.

And my love for Schilling grows.

Local reaction to Yankees losing streak

This town has lost its mind. I am listening to WEEI and they are actually saying that ARod will have to leave NY to win. They are comparing the NY Yankees to Texas and Seattle and bringing up the theory that ARod will have to leave the Yankees and go to a winning team if he wants to win a championship. I shit you not. After 3 years of bashing ARod and Nixon calling him out in spring training for some reason, and saying that ARod has never won anything and the Yankees won't win with him, blah blah blah, they are now saying that he has to leave the Yankees - and go to the Red Sox - if they want to win.

Give it a rest Loser Nation, the Yankees are having serious injury problems but let's just calm down. Losing 4 games in a row is not the end of the world.

And my plan continues to take shape...

First Yankee Red Sox series of the year

Holy crap that was bad. The Yankee fan in me is saying this

"Settle down Loser Nation, its only April. We had two minor league pitchers going and we still kept it pretty close. " but the realist in me is a little concerned. I questioned some of Torre's moves, am worried about middle relief and can't wait to get the full rotation back. But things will be fine. Offense is great, getting Wang back this week. I've watched the Yanks and Sox very closely now for about 10 years since I moved to Boston, and one thing NOT to do is panic in April. When September comes around, I am sure things will be different than they are now. But still, that was one painful freakin weekend.

I am going to the game tonight. Toronto just lost three in a row to Baltimore and the Sox just won three in a row against the Yanks. Hopefully the tide will turn tonight and Loser Nation will have something to complain about tomorrow on D&C. All this mamby pamby good feeling hug each other crap around this cynical town is making me sick. Everybody in giddy and in the great line from Pulp Fiction, The Wolf: "Well, let's not start sucking each other's (expletive deleted) quite yet gentlemen". It's only April.

Oh, one other thing. I think it was last year, or maybe 2005, that the Yankees started out real cold and fell far behind. Then they went on like a 19 game winning streak and came right back in it. Let's just see how the year plays out.

Red Sox - Yankees Game 1 of 18

Well that wasn't fun. Total implosion. At least I got to watch it in a bar on the east end of Long Island and people were already pissed off about the Islanders losing. It was a nice tribute, but those green jerseys looked awful. And Manny looked like he was ready to roll with his boys on a Saturday night in his old Bronx neighborhood. In fact, the entire team looked ridiculous, different color long sleeve undershirts, ugly shade of green for the jerseys , hats on backwards. It was like my old softball team when we didn't have a sponsor.

I was driving from NYC to the east end late afternoon and was listening to Mike and the Mad Dog on WFAN. They were talking about Fenway and Boston in general and I have to agree with two things they both said. First, there is no better baseball town then Boston. When the Red Sox are playing, you walk down Comm Ave and every one is wearing a Sox cap or some other Red Sox item. NY has way too much going on for it to focus just on the Yankees. THe second thing is I have to agree that seeing a game at Fenway is a more "magical" experience than Yankee stadium. Its the entire package. I hate to admit to both because i love the Yankees, but truth is truth.

Dave out.

PS. Not feeling great about Karstens and Wright going the remaining two games. Not feeling great at all.

Year of Love for ARod

Ok, I said it. This was going to be the year of love for ARod. So maybe it will just be the Month of Love for ARod, but right now I don't give a flying frig about our pitching problems. We'll get by on what we have, we'll have to torture our bullpen which could be bad in October, as long as the guys in the line up stay healthy. Like how I say "I" as if I make some of the decisions. If the Yanks were doing bad and I had something to complain about, it would be "them" and "those" guys in the line up.

Oh good, Manny finally got his first home run. WHO CARES. I hate the Red Sox, I'll admit it. Drunk uneducated fans with tunnel vision. Clubhouse run like a fraternity. I'll admit I like the ownership because they squeeze every single dollar out of that death trap they call Fenway and force the working man to save for 12 months to take his kids to one Tuesday night game a year. Supply and demand at its best and those communists in Cambridge must hate it.

So ARod is having a good time right now. I can see it when I watch on my 14 inch laptop screen. He's laughing and Jeter is letting Arod into his circle of friends, he slimmed down, he's wearing his socks up to mid thigh like they are leggings, he got rid of the lip gloss.

I can't remember exactly when, but a couple of years ago Wakefield had a great year. Maybe it was 2005. He won a ton of games and no one could seem to figure him out. I am starting to get a sinking feeling in my stomach that this could be one of those years. Usually when it's cold and dry the knuckleball gets hit, but he is pitching great. I just hope that when the teams start to get to see him a couple of times they start to hit him. Same goes for Dice-K. First time around no one has seen him before. The hitters in this league are very very smart and start to pick up on how a pitcher throws.

So off to watch the highlights of today's win.

Mussina and Pavano on the DL

Ugh. So not good right now. Three starting pitchers on the DL and Mariano giving up the game yesterday. Loser Nation is giddy with excitement. Let's just calm down, Red Sox fans, its April 16. Remember last year?? All the injuries?? And how did things end up.

New York as a Yankee Fan

I'm in NY for the Easter weekend and when I went to the store this morning to get the greatest newspaper in the world, Newsday, as well as the other two tabloids, NY Post and the Daily News, I was wearing my Yankees cap and didn't get nasty looks. To be honest, I never wear Yankee stuff in the Boston area because most fans are drunk, stupid, or both, and start with me. Even the nice fans have some snide comment. But when in NY I can put on anything with the interlocking N Y and no issues.

I also forgot how good WFAN is. I don't think its anywhere near as fun to listen to as WEEI, but its great.

I watched the Yankee game today on a large screen TV on the YES network, not on my 15 inches choppy laptop screen like usual. And guess what? Freakin AROD hit a game winning, walk off 2 out 2 strike grand freakin slam home run. It's the season of love for AROD, I can tell.

Too bad I couldn't watch Wakefield pitch yesterday. What a dramatic drop from Dice-K one day, with all the hype and expectations and millions watching someone who could be one of the worlds best pitchers, to a guy who's been with the Sox for 15 years and is fairly predictable. I actually like Wakefield, not sure why, but he seems like a normal guy.

Good stuff, being a Yankee fan, good stuff.

Comment not working

The ability to post a comment is not working. Not sure why not. Sorry. I'll work on it at some point.

Opening Day 2007 - Results

Red Sox lose 7-1. Yankees win 9-5.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but let me be honest for a sec. If the Yankees got beat up and the Sox won, I would have said that today was 1/162nd of the season. I would have said that it means as much as any other game and its only the first day of the season. But that is not what happened. Schilling and the pitchers that followed got beat up. No one hit when needed. And the Yanks, who I watched on my laptop while at work, played very well. Pavano wasn't lights out but he was good enough.

So after the game I was listening to Mike Adams on EEI and some moron actually called in and said "We are one game behind the Yankees and NY doesn't get going until May or June so we need to stop this before we slip farther behind".

I'm not joking. Idiots called in to complain about letting Schill be the opening day starter. WEEI is going to be fun for the next two days. A LOT of fun.

What a freakin bunch of losers.

PS. Did I mention I think this will be the year of Love for ARod. I think the fans will start to lighten up on this guy and give him a break, cheer him and give him some slack when he doesn't do well. And once again I was proven wrong when they boo-ed him today after he dropped a foul pop-up and struck out.

PSS. Thank G*d the season has started. I missed baseball. Holy love of Hazel Mae, did you see the Yankees line-up. Middle relief is actually ok. Rivera closing out games. It could be a good season if the starting rotation stays healthy.

Opening Day 2007

Finally arrived. Spring training started to feel like a bad date around midnight - either give me something to work with or call it over. But now, other than the Mets and Cardinals, spring training is over and the regular season is about to start.

So it's opening day, a great day for most Yankee fans because it signals the start of another promising year. For most Red Sox fans, it's a day they start drinking at 8AM and begin cursing their misfortune by 11, then stumble to a bar to watch the first day of the season. Other than 2005, it's usually a day that was preceded by 6 months of building anger and frustration.

Let me start with the Yanks.

I see the season ending with 100 victories and another division title.

Red Sox

Over confident in the beginning with great pitching, injuries hurt the rotation, middle relief falls apart, great hitting until it counts then cliff edge drop off in production, ending with a train wreck of a season in third place. Oh wait, that was last year, sorry.

I see the Sox winning 91 games and not making the playoffs.

By the way, have you been reading 38pitches, Curt Schilling's blog. I was fascinated at first but have grown really bored. I like to hear him describe every single pitch in spring training, but give me some good in-the-clubhouse sh*t, like words between two players or catching someone taking roids. Something.
